The Interfaith Centre of Melbourne and the Buddhist Council of Victoria invite you to join us for an Interfaith Prayer and Chant Ceremony for Japan on Saturday 9 April, from 10:00 am to 11:15 am.
The event will take place at BMW Edge, Federation Square, Corner of Swanston and Flinders Streets. Doors open at 9:30 am. Free event.
Following the devastation of the great North-Eastern Earthquake of 9 magnitude on March 11, followed by the 7 metre tsunami, and the breakdown of the Fukushima nuclear-power plant, the situation is grave.
The death toll is over 12,000, more than 15,000 people are missing, 2,700 people have been injured and over 240,000 people have been displaced. Adults and children are in shock and grief. 135,000 homes have been destroyed, washed away or burnt down.
While we need to donate financially, we also feel the need to give spiritually to those who mourn, to those still in shock, to those who are injured and to those who have lost their homes and possessions.
On Saturday we will share our loving thoughts and prayers for the Japanese Nation.
In peace,
Reverend Helen Summers -The Interfaith Centre of Melbourne and Laura Chan, Former Chair of Buddhist Council of Victoria
